Overview

Why a tensile structure in Faridabad

Faridabad is Haryana’s largest city and one of North India’s older manufacturing centres — a very different building stock from the glass-tower economy of Gurugram on the other side of the Aravallis. The demand here is led by industry: the sector-wise industrial estates of Sectors 24, 25 and 27, the NIT and Ballabgarh belts, and the engineering, automotive-component, appliance and packaging plants strung along the Mathura Road corridor. Around that sit a large school and hospital sector, the older residential grid of Old Faridabad and NIT, and the new sectors of Greater Faridabad across the bypass.

That mix points to working structures more than showpieces: covered loading docks and staging bays, staff and two-wheeler parking at plants, campus walkways, and forecourt canopies. It is the same brief Ekra Decor has built repeatedly for industrial clients elsewhere in NCR — Minda in the Delhi NCR belt, Indian Oil at Greater Noida, KW Delhi 6 at Raj Nagar Extension in Ghaziabad.

Faridabad sits roughly 30–40 km from the Rangpuri factory on NH-8, reached by the Mathura Road and Delhi–Faridabad Skyway corridor, so it carries the same short logistics chain as any Delhi site — steel and welded membrane panels leave the workshop and reach the plot the same day. For the full technical background, see the tensile structure guide.

Local Climate & Environment

How the local climate shapes the design

Faridabad shares Delhi’s composite NCR climate — extreme summer heat, dust, a short intense monsoon and a polluted, foggy winter — with one addition: a heavy industrial atmosphere that soils and attacks a roof faster than a residential one. This is general climate information for the area; the wind, rain and snow values used in a structural design come from the site survey and the applicable codes, not from a page like this.

Extreme summer heat

April to June push into the mid-40s °C with the hot, dust-laden loo wind. A light-toned membrane that reflects solar heat and an open, well-ventilated form keep a covered dock or parking bay usable through the afternoon.

Industrial soiling

Plant exhaust, vehicle particulates along Mathura Road and the NCR winter smog load the surface far faster than in a residential suburb. A PVDF-finished membrane resists dirt pick-up and sheds most of it in rain; a plain PVC lacquer in this setting needs washing noticeably more often.

Monsoon in heavy bursts

The July to September rain arrives in short, intense spells. The roof is given steep positive falls and generously sized gutters and outlets, with an overflow route so a blocked outlet cannot pond the membrane.

Dust storms

Pre-monsoon dust storms bring abrasive airborne grit and sharp gust fronts. Both matter: the grit accelerates surface wear, and the gust is a short-duration uplift case on a light roof.

Dense winter fog

December and January bring dense fog and cold nights but no snow. The large swing between summer and winter is designed into the connections so the fabric never slackens.

Aravalli edge and firm ground

Most of the city sits on firm alluvium suited to isolated footings, but the western edge runs up against the Aravalli ridge, where harder strata and rock can change the excavation and anchoring approach. Which one applies is settled by the site survey, not assumed.

Local Applications

Tensile structures that make sense in Faridabad

Weighted toward industrial and institutional work rather than retail showpieces.

Covered docks and staging bays

Column-light roofs over loading docks, dispatch yards and material staging at the Sector 24, 25, 27 and Ballabgarh estates, keeping goods and handling equipment out of sun and monsoon. Industrial canopies →

Plant and staff car parking

Cantilever shades over employee and visitor parking, engineered as a repeating bay so a large lot stays quick to build and consistent to maintain. Car parking tensile shades →

Two-wheeler parking

The largest single requirement on most Faridabad plants. Barrel-vault sheds over dense motorcycle and scooter parking, sized around the real bay pitch. Two-wheeler parking sheds →

Campus and hospital walkways

Continuous covered routes between blocks for the school and hospital sector, so the link stays usable through both the summer and the monsoon. Walkway canopies →

Entrance and forecourt canopies

Gatehouse, reception and forecourt covers — the one place on an industrial site where the structure is also the first thing a visitor sees. Tensile canopy structures →

School sports and assembly covers

All-weather roofs over courts, assembly grounds and play areas across the Faridabad school sector. Outdoor structures →

Materials

Membrane choice for the local climate

The industrial atmosphere is what separates Faridabad from the rest of NCR when specifying a skin.

Usual pickPVDF-lacquered PVC

The dirt-shedding finish earns its cost here more than almost anywhere else in NCR. Plant exhaust, road particulates and winter smog all sit on the surface, and a PVDF top coat keeps the roof looking maintained and cuts the cleaning interval. PVDF fabric →

EconomyPVC-coated polyester

Reasonable for back-of-house and short-design-life structures, provided the owner accepts a noticeably shorter washing interval in this atmosphere. PVC fabric →

LandmarkPTFE-coated glass

For a headquarters entrance or a signature structure meant to last decades, and non-combustible where that is called for. PTFE fabric →

Inland, so standard hot-dip galvanising is adequate for the steel — but where a canopy sits close to a process exhaust or a chemical store, the corrosion protection is specified for that exposure rather than the general one. Full comparison on the membrane materials page, and the upkeep it needs is set out under maintenance and repair.

Design & Engineering

Engineering for local conditions

Points that come up on a Faridabad project.

  • Site survey — levels, access, soil and wind exposure. Exposure varies sharply between an open industrial estate and a plot enclosed by existing sheds, and the Aravalli edge changes the ground assumption.
  • Wind — uplift governs any light roof, assessed for the specific site under IS 875 Part 3 rather than taken from a general figure.
  • Seismic — the district sits in the same high-seismic NCR zone as Delhi, so the frame and its connections are checked to the applicable code alongside the wind case.
  • Drainage — steep falls, generous gutters and an overflow route for the short intense monsoon spells, and outlets sized on the assumption they will collect industrial dust.
  • Working around a live plant — off-site fabrication and a sequenced install so production, dispatch and shift movement continue. Crane positions and lift windows are planned against the plant’s own operation.
  • Repetition — parking lots and dock lines suit a repeating engineered bay, which shortens the programme and keeps future maintenance and panel replacement straightforward.
  • Foundations — isolated footings to IS 456 on the firm alluvium, revised where the survey finds rock or made-up ground.

Coverage

How Ekra Decor covers Faridabad

Faridabad is served directly from the Rangpuri factory and head office on NH-8, the same base that covers Delhi itself. Steel is CNC-profiled and membrane panels are plotter-cut and high-frequency welded in the workshop, then delivered to the plot — there is no regional depot in between and no local subcontractor taking over at the boundary. The survey team, the engineers who run the form-finding and load cases, the fabricators and the installation crew are all the same in-house team.

Practically, that means a site survey usually within a few days of an enquiry, and an installation crew that can reach the site inside an hour outside peak traffic. The same team returns for inspection, re-tensioning and repairs under an annual maintenance contract.

Neighbouring coverage: Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Jhajjar and Bahadurgarh.

Why Ekra Decor

One in-house team, concept to maintenance

Practising since 1998

A dedicated tensile-structure practice, not a general contractor adding a line of work.

60+ documented projects

Across education, healthcare, industrial, transit, retail, hospitality, sport, public and residential work — each with photographs and recorded scope.

In-house, end to end

Site survey, 3D design, structural engineering, steel and membrane fabrication, installation and tensioning — one accountable team, no subcontractor hand-offs.

ISO 9001:2015

Certified manufacturing, with a handover pack of calculations, load report, stability certificate and material certificates on every project.

Engineered to Indian Standards

Wind to IS 875 Part 3, steel to IS 800, foundations to IS 456, galvanising to IS 4759 / IS 2629.

Maintained afterwards

The same team returns for inspection, cleaning, re-tensioning and repairs under an annual maintenance contract.

Cost

What drives the cost of a tensile structure in Faridabad

There is no per-square-foot rate that survives contact with a real site. These are the variables that actually move the figure.

  • Membrane grade — the gap between a plain PVC lacquer and a PVDF finish is the single largest specification choice, and in this atmosphere it also changes the running cost.
  • Clear span and column layout — how much floor has to stay free of columns drives the steel more than the roofed area does.
  • Steel tonnage and finish — section sizes follow the span and the wind case; hot-dip galvanising versus a paint system follows the exposure.
  • Height and foundations — clearance for trucks and handling equipment raises both the frame and the footing loads, and the Aravalli-edge ground can change the excavation.
  • Site access and live operations — a plot that has to be built around running production, in restricted shift windows, costs more in programme than an open site.
  • Repetition — a long run of identical bays is materially cheaper per unit area than a one-off feature canopy.

Common Questions

Tensile structures in Faridabad FAQ

Questions specific to tensile structure projects in Faridabad, Ballabgarh and the wider NCR.

Yes. Faridabad is served directly from the Ekra Decor factory and head office at Rangpuri on NH-8, roughly 30 to 40 km away by the Mathura Road and Delhi-Faridabad Skyway corridor. There is no regional depot or local subcontractor in between: the same in-house team surveys, engineers, fabricates, installs and later maintains the structure.

Mostly working structures rather than showpieces. Covered loading docks and staging bays for the industrial estates, cantilever car parking shades, two-wheeler parking sheds, campus and hospital walkways, entrance and forecourt canopies, and sports or assembly covers for the school sector.

A PVDF-lacquered PVC membrane in most cases. Plant exhaust, vehicle particulates along the Mathura Road corridor and the NCR winter smog load a roof surface much faster than in a residential suburb, and the PVDF finish resists dirt pick-up and sheds most of it in rain. Plain PVC is workable for back-of-house structures if a shorter cleaning interval is accepted, and PTFE-coated glass suits a landmark or non-combustible requirement.

Not yet a documented one in the city itself. The comparable NCR industrial and institutional work is listed on this page with its actual locations, including Indian Oil at Greater Noida, Minda in the Delhi NCR belt, KW Delhi 6 at Raj Nagar Extension in Ghaziabad, ILBS Hospital in Vasant Kunj and Gyan Bharti School in Saket.

Wind uplift governs any light roof and is assessed for the specific site under IS 875 Part 3 rather than taken from a general figure. The district sits in the same high-seismic NCR zone as Delhi, so the frame and connections are checked to the applicable code alongside the wind case. Foundations are designed to IS 456, usually as isolated footings on firm alluvium, revised where the survey finds rock near the Aravalli edge.

Yes, and that is the normal case. Steel is CNC-profiled and membrane panels are plotter-cut and high-frequency welded in the workshop, so site work is limited to foundations, erection and tensioning. Crane positions and lift windows are planned around production, dispatch and shift movement.

There is no per-square-foot rate that survives contact with a real site. The cost is set by the membrane grade, the clear span and column layout, the steel tonnage and its finish, the height and foundation conditions, site access around live operations, and how much of the work repeats as identical bays.
