Why a tensile structure in Ludhiana
Ludhiana is Punjab's manufacturing engine — the world's largest bicycle-parts cluster, a huge hosiery and knitwear industry, auto-components, hand tools and machine tools, concentrated in the Focal Point phases and the older industrial areas. Alongside that sits a prosperous commercial and residential city. The tensile demand runs from covered industrial yards to sculptural entrance features on private property.
Ekra Decor has three documented projects in the Ludhiana area: a 180 m² star-form entrance canopy over a deck at a private property (about 15 days); a 360 m² sail-form canopy over a private swimming pool (about 45 days); and a 500 m² commercial tensile structure on a galvanised frame (about 30 days).
Ludhiana is a direct run up the GT Road / Chandigarh corridor from the Delhi NCR base. Steel and membrane are fabricated at the workshop and shipped; the same in-house team installs. For the full technical background, see the tensile structure guide.
How the local climate shapes the design
Ludhiana has hot, dry Punjab summers, a concentrated monsoon and dense winter fog — inland, so no coastal corrosion issue. This is general climate information for the area; the wind, rain and snow values used in a structural design come from the site survey and the applicable codes, not from a page like this.
Hot, dry pre-monsoon summers
April to June push into the low-to-mid 40s °C with a hot, dry wind. A light-toned, solar-reflecting membrane and an open, ventilated form keep the space underneath usable.
Concentrated south-west monsoon
Most of the ~700–800 mm annual rain falls July to September, often in heavy spells. The roof is given steep positive falls, generous gutters and outlets, and a designed overflow route.
Pre-monsoon dust storms & spring hail
May and June bring dust storms, and spring can bring hail. A curved, well-tensioned membrane rides a gust and sheds hail rather than pocketing it.
Dense, prolonged winter fog
December and January bring dense fog and cold nights but no snow. The large summer-to-winter swing is designed into the connections so the fabric never slackens.
Gusty storm winds
Wind uplift — the governing load on any light roof — is assessed for the specific site under IS 875 Part 3, including the plot's exposure.
Firm alluvial ground; no coast
The Indo-Gangetic alluvium is generally good to found on; footings to IS 456. Inland, so coastal salt corrosion is not a concern — standard galvanising is adequate.
Tensile structures that make sense in Ludhiana
Split between industrial cover and commercial / private feature structures.
Industrial yard & working-area cover
Covered dispatch bays, staging yards and working zones for the Focal Point and industrial-area plants. Industrial canopies →
Commercial & showroom canopies
Entrance canopies, forecourt covers and courtyard roofs for the commercial districts — as built for the 500 m² Ludhiana project. Tensile canopy structures →
Sculptural entrance features
Star-form and sail-form canopies over entrances and decks on private and commercial property — as built at Salwan. Custom fabric structures →
Swimming-pool canopies
Sail-form and saddle shades over private and club pools — as built at Sun View. Swimming-pool tensile canopies →
Warehouse & loading cover
Loading canopies and covered docks for the distribution belt. Fabric buildings →
Car & two-wheeler parking
Cantilever shades and barrel-vault sheds over factory and commercial parking. Car parking tensile shades →
Membrane choice for the local climate
Hot, dry summers and dry-season dust favour a PVDF finish; inland, so standard galvanising is adequate.
PVDF-lacquered PVC
The PVDF top-coat resists dust and UV and largely self-cleans in rain — the sensible default for this climate. PVDF fabric →
PVC-coated polyester
For a short-life, sheltered or budget structure, with more regular cleaning. PVC fabric →
PTFE-coated glass
Chemically inert and near self-cleaning — for a permanent or civic structure, or where a non-combustible fire class applies. PTFE fabric →
Inland and non-coastal — standard hot-dip galvanising is adequate for the steel. Full comparison on the membrane materials page.
Engineering for local conditions
Points that come up on a Ludhiana project. No structural values are quoted here.
- Site survey & soil investigation — the firm alluvium is generally good to found on; footings to IS 456, sized against uplift.
- Wind — the plot's exposure and the pre-monsoon dust-storm gusts are assessed under IS 875 Part 3.
- Drainage — steep positive falls and generous gutters and outlets for a concentrated monsoon that arrives in bursts, with a designed overflow route; a curved membrane also sheds spring hail.
- Feature-canopy geometry — a star-form or sail-form canopy is a sculptural piece first: the mast positions, edge curves and tension are set for the look, then verified for wind and drainage.
- Pool canopies — the frame is specified for the humid, chemically loaded air above a pool, and the form set to keep the water shaded without trapping heat.
- Corrosion protection — the steel is hot-dip galvanised; the coating class is set by the local air.
- Thermal movement — the seasonal temperature swing is designed into the connections so the membrane never slackens.
- Off-site fabrication — steel and membrane are cut and made at the workshop and shipped, so the on-site work is assembly and tensioning.

How Ekra Decor covers Ludhiana
For Ludhiana, Ekra Decor's service area is the city, the Focal Point phases and industrial areas, and the wider central Punjab including Jalandhar, Khanna and Moga. Steel and membrane are fabricated at the Delhi NCR workshop and shipped up the GT Road corridor; the same in-house team surveys and installs on site.
No local office, factory, warehouse or team. Ekra Decor works across India from a single Delhi NCR design, fabrication and installation base — the same in-house team surveys, engineers, fabricates and installs every project, Ludhiana included.

What drives the cost of a tensile structure in Ludhiana
The same factors apply everywhere; the mix changes with the project and the site.
There is no meaningful fixed rate per square foot — two structures of the same area can differ by a wide margin. Distance and site access affect the logistics line, but there is no flat “Ludhiana premium”. Send your requirement for a design direction and an itemised quote; the tensile structure cost guide sets out every factor.
Tensile structures in Ludhiana FAQ
Questions specific to tensile structure projects in Ludhiana and central Punjab.
Yes — three documented projects in the Ludhiana area: a star-form entrance canopy, a pool sail canopy, and a 500 m² commercial structure. Steel and membrane are fabricated at the Delhi NCR workshop and shipped up the GT Road corridor; the same in-house team installs.
Yes — the three above, at distinct locations. They range from a 15-day sculptural feature to a 45-day pool canopy to a 30-day commercial cover.
No — there is no local office or team. Ludhiana is served from the Delhi NCR base, a direct run up the GT Road / Chandigarh corridor.
Yes — the Salwan star-form canopy is exactly that. The mast positions, edge curves and tension are set for the look first, then verified for wind and detailed to drain clear of the doorway.
Yes — as built at Sun View near Ludhiana. A sail-form or saddle canopy shades the water without trapping heat, and the frame is specified for the humid, chemically loaded air above a pool.
PVDF-lacquered PVC is the usual choice — it handles the hot, dry summers and dry-season dust and largely self-cleans. Inland, so standard galvanising is adequate for the steel. PTFE-glass for a permanent landmark.
There is no fixed rate per square foot. Cost depends on the area, span, form, steel, membrane and site conditions; a sculptural feature canopy costs more per square metre than a plain industrial roof. Send your requirement for an itemised quote.
