Why a tensile structure in Goa
Goa's tensile-structure demand runs on two tracks. The first is industrial: the Verna, Pilerne, Kundaim, Sancoale and Bicholim estates carry pharma, electronics, food-processing and engineering plants that need covered yards, walkways and working areas that survive the monsoon. The second is hospitality and public realm: resorts, beach shacks upgraded to permanent structures, event venues, and government waterfront and market projects.
Ekra Decor's documented Goa project is a 20,000 m² industrial tensile structure for Siemens Ltd. — the single largest area in the company's project archive, delivered in about two months.
Goa is a long haul from the Delhi NCR base, but the Siemens project shows the logistics work: steel and membrane are fabricated at the workshop and shipped, and the same in-house team installs. For the full technical background, see the tensile structure guide.
How the local climate shapes the design
Goa's monsoon is among the heaviest in the country, and the coast means constant salt — both drive the design. This is general climate information for the area; the wind, rain and snow values used in a structural design come from the site survey and the applicable codes, not from a page like this.
Constant coastal salt air
Salt-laden humidity attacks unprotected steel and fittings year round. The frame is hot-dip galvanised and painted or duplex-coated, exposed cables and fittings are stainless, and a PVDF- or PTFE-coated membrane is chosen for salt and UV resistance.
Heavy west-coast monsoon
June to September brings a heavy monsoon — very heavy in Goa and south Gujarat, less so at Diu — often in intense bursts. The roof is given steep falls, oversized gutters and a designed overflow route.
Cyclone-fringe wind exposure
The Arabian Sea coast sees the edge of cyclone-season weather. Wind uplift is taken to the coastal design figure under IS 875 Part 3, not a lighter inland value.
High humidity, moderate heat
The coast does not get the extreme heat of the interior, but humidity is high all year. Enclosed or domed forms are vented so warm, moist air escapes.
Strong marine UV
Reflected sun off water and sand raises the UV load. The membrane is chosen for UV stability and colour hold.
Sandy & variable coastal ground
Coastal soil varies, including loose sand near the shore. Foundations are sized from the site's own soil investigation to IS 456.
Tensile structures that make sense in Goa
Split between the industrial estates and the hospitality / public-realm sector.
Industrial yard & working-area cover
Covered dispatch bays, staging yards and working zones on the Verna / Kundaim / Pilerne estates — as built for Siemens. Industrial canopies →
Warehouse & distribution canopies
Loading canopies and covered docks that stay dry through the monsoon. Fabric buildings →
Resort & hospitality structures
Poolside canopies, restaurant and bar covers, and event lawns engineered for salt air and heavy rain. Custom fabric structures →
Event & wedding venues
Large clear-span membrane roofs over destination-wedding and event spaces. Tensile canopy structures →
Public-realm & market cover
Waterfront pavilions, market roofs and bus-stand canopies for municipal and government projects. Walkway & public structures →
Car parking
Cantilever shades over resort and commercial car parks, with marine-grade steel and concealed drainage. Car parking tensile shades →
Membrane choice for the local climate
Heavy rain and salt air point to a fluoropolymer membrane and a full coastal steel package.
PVDF-lacquered PVC
The PVDF top-coat resists salt-laden humidity and UV and stays cleaner in coastal air. PVDF fabric →
PTFE-coated glass
Chemically inert and near self-cleaning — the best-in-class choice for a permanent coastal structure or a fire class. PTFE fabric →
PVC-coated polyester
Only for a short-life or sheltered structure; a plain PVC lacquer chalks faster in salt air. PVC fabric →
On the coast the steel specification matters as much as the fabric: hot-dip galvanising plus paint or duplex coating, and stainless cables and fittings where exposed. Full comparison on the membrane materials page.
Engineering for local conditions
Points that come up on a Goa project. No structural values are quoted here.
- Site survey & soil investigation — coastal and laterite soils vary widely, so foundations are sized from the site's own soil investigation to IS 456.
- Wind — wind uplift is taken to the coastal, cyclone-fringe design figure under IS 875 Part 3.
- Drainage — the single biggest issue — falls, valley and eaves gutters and outlets are sized for one of the heaviest monsoons in India, with a designed overflow route.
- Full coastal corrosion package — galvanising plus paint or duplex coating on the steel, stainless cables and fittings where exposed.
- Repeating-bay industrial roofs — a large area like the Siemens structure is built from a repeating engineered bay, which keeps a big roof buildable and the programme predictable.
- Corrosion protection — the steel is hot-dip galvanised; the coating class is set by the local air.
- Thermal movement — the seasonal temperature swing is designed into the connections so the membrane never slackens.
- Off-site fabrication — steel and membrane are cut and made at the workshop and shipped, so the on-site work is assembly and tensioning.

How Ekra Decor covers Goa
For Goa, Ekra Decor's service area is the whole state — the Verna / Kundaim / Pilerne / Sancoale / Bicholim industrial estates, and the coastal hospitality belt from the north to the south. Steel and membrane are fabricated at the Delhi NCR workshop and shipped; the same in-house team surveys and installs on site.
No local office, factory, warehouse or team. Ekra Decor works across India from a single Delhi NCR design, fabrication and installation base — the same in-house team surveys, engineers, fabricates and installs every project, Goa included.

What drives the cost of a tensile structure in Goa
The same factors apply everywhere; the mix changes with the project and the site.
There is no meaningful fixed rate per square foot — two structures of the same area can differ by a wide margin. Distance and site access affect the logistics line, but there is no flat “Goa premium”. Send your requirement for a design direction and an itemised quote; the tensile structure cost guide sets out every factor.
Tensile structures in Goa FAQ
Questions specific to tensile structure projects in Goa.
Yes. Ekra Decor built a 20,000 m² industrial tensile structure for Siemens Ltd. in Goa — the largest single area in its project archive. Steel and membrane are fabricated at the Delhi NCR workshop and shipped; the same in-house team installs on site.
Yes — the Siemens structure, shown above with its case study, delivered in about two months. It is the biggest project in the company's record.
No — there is no local office, factory or team. Goa is served from the Delhi NCR base; the Siemens project was delivered from there.
Yes — if the drainage is engineered for it. Goa's monsoon is among the heaviest in India, so the falls, gutters and outlets are sized for it, with a designed overflow route so a blocked outlet cannot pond the membrane. This is the defining design issue in Goa.
The steel is hot-dip galvanised and painted or duplex-coated, exposed cables and fittings are stainless, and the membrane is a PVDF- or PTFE-coated fabric chosen for salt and UV resistance.
Yes — the Siemens project is the proof. A large roof is built from a repeating engineered bay, fabricated at the workshop, shipped, and assembled and tensioned on site by the in-house team.
There is no fixed rate per square foot. Cost depends on the area, span, form, steel, membrane and site conditions; the coastal specification and the distance from the Delhi NCR base both affect the total. Send your requirement for an itemised quote.
