ITC Resorts, Manesar Tensile Structure

A luxury resort sells its landscape and its outdoor experiences — the event lawn, the poolside, the alfresco restaurant — and the weather is the thing that takes those offline. A large, well-made tensile canopy over one of them keeps it bookable and usable year round, while being light and elegant enough not to spoil the setting.

Ekra Decor delivered the structure as a turnkey job: survey and setting-out, 3D structural and membrane design, fabrication of the galvanised steel frame and the fabric, and installation and tensioning, over about 2,250 m² in roughly 40 days.

In a resort setting the form matters as much as the function. Ekra Decor form-finds a membrane geometry that spans the space cleanly on perimeter columns — keeping the covered area completely open — while giving the roof a sculptural, curved profile that reads as part of the design rather than a utilitarian shelter.

The double curvature is structural: it pre-stresses the fabric so it stays taut under wind uplift and drains the monsoon to defined points clear of the space. Ekra Decor designs the steelwork to IS 800 and checks the structure for wind, rain and seismic loading to the applicable Indian codes, with the foundations sized against uplift and detailed to sit discreetly within the landscaping. A translucent, light-toned membrane keeps the space bright and softens the strong Aravalli sun.

The steel is cut, welded and hot-dip galvanised in the workshop and the membrane is cut and high-frequency welded into panels off-site, so the on-site programme is erection: foundations, frame, membrane, tensioning.

On an operating resort the work is screened and sequenced around guest activity and events, with access and deliveries planned to keep disruption low, and the space handed over as a finished, tensioned structure in about 40 days.

The resort gained a large, elegant covered space that keeps an event lawn, dining area or poolside usable through the heat and the monsoon — a genuine amenity that sits lightly in the landscape. It needs only periodic cleaning and a routine tension check.
