Project — Public Infrastructure
Ekra Decor’s archive records a tensile structure at Hazratbal Dargah, a revered shrine on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar that houses a relic venerated as a hair of the Prophet Muhammad.
Project Overview
Ekra Decor’s archive records a tensile structure at Hazratbal Dargah, a revered shrine on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar that houses a relic venerated as a hair of the Prophet Muhammad.
The shrine’s wide, open marble courtyard is documented as capable of holding thousands of devotees during congregational prayers and relic displays — exactly the kind of large open gathering space that a tensile shade structure is typically installed to cover.

Project Highlights
At 2,600 m², the structure is large enough to shade a substantial portion of a courtyard built to hold thousands of people.
A tensile canopy over an open courtyard shields worshippers from Srinagar’s sun, rain and snow across the seasons.
Per Ekra Decor’s project records, the structure was completed in roughly three months.
How This Project Was Delivered
Ekra Decor is a turnkey manufacturer — the same team carries a project from first sketch to final tensioning.
Membrane geometry is developed in form-finding software so the fabric is correctly pre-stressed in double curvature.
Steel frame, cables and foundations are engineered for the span, wind and loading conditions of the site.
Steel is fabricated and hot-dip galvanised or epoxy coated; the membrane is patterned and welded in-house.
The frame is erected and the membrane tensioned on site by our own installation crews, then handed over.
Membranes We Work With
The right membrane depends on span, climate and intended lifespan. These are the architectural fabrics we build with.
