**Hazratbal Dargah, Srinagar — under snow**Ekra Decor's 2,600 m² courtyard shade at Hazratbal Dargah, with the canopies and the courtyard under snow. Snow sits still where wind does not, which is why the geometry in Jammu & Kashmir is steeper than it would be in Goa.

**Inside a finished auditorium**A tensioned membrane ceiling over a full auditorium — radial ribs, a barrel-vault surface and the diffused light a fabric roof gives an interior.

**Membrane going on to steel**The stage where the fabric meets the frame — the connection detail that decides whether a roof stays taut.

**A long walkway canopy**Continuous covered walkway, seen along its length. Long thin roofs are the hardest shape to keep stable in wind.

Retractable Roofs

Membrane roofs that open. Stills cannot show the thing that matters most — whether the fabric stays taut through the whole travel.

**A pleated roof gathering open**The fabric folds into a concertina as the bays draw back.

**Stacked in the parked position**Fully retracted, the bays nest at one end. That stack length is part of the design.

**A yard under a retractable cover**A working yard roofed so it can be opened again — the usual reason a client wants movement rather than a fixed roof.

**Spanning between two buildings**A retractable roof closing the gap between existing blocks, which is where the fixing detail gets difficult.

**Over sports courts**Courts covered so they stay playable in rain and heat, with the roof still able to open.
