Project Overview
from Ekra Decor’s
project records
Ekra Decor built a tensile structure for Indian Oil Corporation at Greater Noida. IOCL is India’s largest oil-marketing company, with a wide network of depots, terminals and offices across the Delhi-NCR region.
At about 2,100 m², the structure is consistent with a depot or office canopy — a covered vehicle or loading area, a staff assembly and parking cover, or a weather-protected working zone. IOCL sites in the region typically have exactly these needs, and a tensile canopy delivers a large covered footprint quickly without a heavy building programme on an operational site.
IOCL as the client is a strong identification, but this research could not independently confirm the specific Greater Noida facility referenced in the archive. The archive records about 2,100 m² and a roughly 1.5-month build.
Project Highlights

About 2,100 m² covered
A substantial single canopy — loading area, covered parking or working-zone scale.
Built for an operational site
A tensile canopy adds a large covered area without the disruption of a conventional build.
Fast delivery
Survey to handover in about six weeks.
Column-light span
Clear spans keep vehicle and forklift movement free underneath.
Client strong, facility unconfirmed
IOCL is clearly identified; the exact Greater Noida site is not confirmed in the records.
Delhi-NCR climate
Designed for the region’s summer heat and monsoon.
The Brief
A large covered area on a working site
An oil-marketing depot or office needs covered outdoor space for a specific reason — a loading bay kept out of the rain, a covered area for vehicles or staff, a weather-protected working zone — and it needs it added without shutting the site down. A tensile canopy covers a big footprint on a light frame that goes up fast.
Ekra Decor delivered the structure as a turnkey job: survey and setting-out, 3D structural and membrane design, fabrication of the galvanised steel frame and the welded fabric, and installation and tensioning, over about 2,100 m² in roughly six weeks. The archive does not record exactly which area the canopy covers, so this page keeps that general.
Design & Engineering
A clear-span industrial canopy
An industrial canopy is designed around what moves underneath it. Columns go to the edges and out of the vehicle and forklift paths, and the membrane spans the working area overhead with the clear height set for the tallest vehicle or handling equipment expected to use it.
The fabric is form-found in 3D and pre-stressed into double curvature so it stays taut under wind uplift and drains the monsoon to defined points clear of the working area. Ekra Decor designs the steelwork to IS 800 and checks the structure for wind, rain and seismic loading to the applicable Indian codes, with the foundations sized against the uplift that governs a lightweight roof. On an oil-industry site the detailing is kept clean and the materials are specified for a long, low-maintenance life.
Fabrication & Installation
Prefabricated, erected around operations
The steel is cut, welded and hot-dip galvanised in the workshop and the membrane is cut and high-frequency welded into panels off-site, so on-site work is limited to casting the foundations, erecting the frame and tensioning the membrane.
On an operational facility the work is fenced and sequenced around site traffic and activity, with completed areas handed back as they are finished. The canopy went up in about six weeks.
The Result
A working area, now under cover
The IOCL site gained a large covered area that keeps vehicles, materials or staff out of the sun and the monsoon, added quickly and without stopping operations. It is a low-maintenance structure — periodic cleaning and a routine check of the frame and tensions.
Ekra Decor builds industrial canopies and covered yards for energy and logistics clients. See more finished work on the projects page, or read about tensile structures in the Noida area.

Common Questions
About this project & building something similar
Where is this project located?
Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
How large is the covered area?
2,100 m², per Ekra Decor's project records.
How long did this project take to build?
≈1.5 months from start to finish, per Ekra Decor's project records — in line with the standard 10 to 15 day fabrication and 3 to 7 day on-site installation timeline used across most projects.
Who was this project built for?
Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL).
Are there real photographs of this project?
Yes — 1 photograph from Ekra Decor's own project archive appear in the gallery above, not a stock or illustrative image.
Can Ekra Decor build something similar for my site?
Yes — every project starts with a site survey and a custom 3D design tailored to your space, not a fixed template. Get in touch to discuss a similar structure for your own site.
What membrane material would a structure like this be built in?
The choice depends on span, climate and intended lifespan. PVC-coated polyester is the most cost-effective option, with a 10–15 year service life. PVDF-coated polyester adds a self-cleaning top layer and pushes that to 15–20 years. PTFE-coated fibreglass is a permanent, non-combustible membrane with a life measured in decades, and ETFE film is used where an ultra-light, highly transparent roof is needed.
Is the structure engineered to Indian standards?
Yes. Wind, rain and — where relevant — snow and seismic loads are analysed to the applicable IS codes, and the steelwork is designed to IS 800. The membrane is form-found so its stresses stay balanced in double curvature, and the foundations are sized against uplift and overturning rather than gravity alone — the governing case for a lightweight tensile roof.
What warranty and documentation come with the structure?
Up to a 10-year written warranty on the membrane, plus as-built drawings, original mill certificates for the membrane and steel, a structural stability certificate and an operation & maintenance manual on handover. An annual maintenance contract covering inspection and re-tensioning is optional.
How much maintenance does a tensile structure need?
Very little — a periodic wash to remove surface dirt, and an annual check of cable tension and bolt torque. PVDF and PTFE membranes are largely self-cleaning, so rain keeps them looking new. We can carry this out under an annual maintenance contract if you prefer.
