A single covered task on a plant
Most plant canopies exist to solve one problem well — keep a loading dock dry, shade a staging area, cover a walk between two buildings. A structure of about 610 m² is scaled to that kind of specific job rather than to roofing a whole yard.
Ekra Decor delivered it as a complete job: survey, 3D structural and membrane design, fabrication of the galvanised steel frame and the membrane, and installation and tensioning, over about 610 m² in roughly 35 days.
Design & Engineering
A compact canopy, fully engineered
The structure is light at this scale, but the design process is the same as for a large roof. The membrane is form-found so it holds double curvature and stays taut, carried on a slim galvanised steel frame with the columns positioned clear of the vehicle, forklift or pedestrian movement it covers.
Wind uplift is the governing load on a small, low canopy. Ekra Decor designs the steelwork to IS 800, checks the structure for wind to the applicable Indian codes, and sizes the foundations for uplift and overturning. The hot-dip-galvanised frame and the coated membrane are specified for a long service life in an industrial setting.
Fabrication & Installation
Prefabricated, installed in weeks
The frame is welded and hot-dip galvanised in the workshop and the membrane is cut and welded to pattern off-site, so on-site work is erection only: cast the foundations, stand the frame, tension the membrane.
On an operational plant the work is fenced and timed around production and traffic, and the area is handed back as a finished, tensioned structure in about 35 days.
