Minda Gentex, Manesar Tensile Structure

On a manufacturing plant, a lot of the value of a canopy is in solving one specific problem — a loading dock where goods get rained on, a staging area that bakes in the sun, a walk between buildings that floods in the monsoon. A 600 m² structure is scaled to exactly that kind of task.

Ekra Decor delivered it as a complete job: survey, 3D structural and membrane design, fabrication of the galvanised steel frame and the membrane, and installation and tensioning, over about 600 m² in roughly 30 days. The archive does not record which area it covers, so this page does not over-specify.

At this size the structure is light, but it is designed to the same standards as a large one. The membrane is form-found so it sits in double curvature and stays taut, carried on a slim galvanised steel frame with the columns kept clear of whatever moves underneath — a forklift, a truck, a pallet flow.

Wind uplift governs a small, low canopy. Ekra Decor designs the steelwork to IS 800, checks the structure for wind loading to the applicable Indian codes, and sizes the foundations for uplift and overturning. The membrane and the hot-dip-galvanised frame are specified for a long, low-maintenance life in an industrial environment.

The frame is welded and hot-dip galvanised in the workshop and the membrane is cut and welded to pattern off-site, so the canopy arrives ready to erect. On site the crew casts the foundations, stands the frame and tensions the membrane.

On an operational plant the work is fenced and timed around production and site traffic, with the area handed back as a finished, tensioned structure in about 30 days.

The plant gained a compact covered area that fixes a specific weather problem — a dock, a staging bay or a link kept dry and shaded — built fast and without stopping work. It needs only cleaning and periodic checks.
