Top 10 Tensile Structure Projects in India
Ten projects designed, fabricated and installed by Ekra Decor — airport, shrine, industrial, coastal, education — each with site photographs and recorded scope.
Ten projects, all our own
A straight statement before the list: these are Ekra Decor’s own builds, not a survey of the country.
Plenty of pages promise the best tensile structures in India and then list landmarks nobody on the page built. This one does not. All ten below were designed, fabricated and installed by us, every one has its own page with site photographs and recorded scope, and you are welcome to ask to visit any of them.
They are ordered to show range rather than size — airport, shrine, industrial plant, coastal waterfront, school, resort — because what distinguishes one tensile job from another is usually the constraint, not the square footage. Our full projects index carries the rest.

-
Arrivals walkway canopy, IGI Airport Terminal 2, New Delhi
A covered walk from the transport kerb to the terminal doors, built as a run of tensioned membrane bays along the frontage, so there is no exposed gap between the doors and the kerb. The constraint that shaped it was that the terminal never stopped operating. Read the project.
-
Hazratbal Dargah, Srinagar
Canopies over a shrine precinct in Kashmir, where the governing load is snow rather than wind and the geometry has to shed it rather than collect it. Read the project.
-
Vikram Solar, Kolkata
Membrane cover on an operating industrial site in a hot, humid, high-rainfall city, where the roof has to work around plant that cannot be moved. Read the project.
-
Waterfront canopies, Port Blair
Conical tensile canopies over a paved waterfront in the Andamans: Bay of Bengal cyclone wind, very high maritime salt and the most aggressive corrosion environment we build in. Read the project.
-
20,000 sq ft roof, Lucknow
One of the largest single areas we have covered, and a good illustration of scaling by adding engineered bays rather than stretching one impossible span. Read the project.
-
ITC Resorts, Manesar
Hospitality work, where the roof is part of the guest experience and the finish is scrutinised at close range rather than from a car park. Read the project.
-
Siemens, Goa
A corporate campus on the coast, combining industrial durability requirements with a finish appropriate to a head-office environment. Read the project.
-
Silchar Airport, Assam
Airport work in one of the wettest regions in the country, where drainage design governs and access for maintenance has to be planned from the start. Read the project.
-
Allen Career Institute, Kota
Covered space for a large student population in a hot, dry climate, where the brief is shade and air movement rather than rain. Read the project.
-
G.D. Goenka, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi
School work in Delhi, covering courtyards and routes so they stay usable through both the summer and the monsoon. Read the project.
What these ten have in common
The constraint, not the span, sets the job
A shrine in Srinagar and a waterfront in Port Blair are similar in area and nothing alike in engineering. Snow governs one, cyclone wind and salt the other.
Operating sites are the norm
An airport terminal, a working solar plant and a school all stayed in use throughout. Sequencing and access are part of the design, not an afterthought.
Climate decides the specification
Silchar’s rainfall, Kota’s dry heat and Goa’s salt lead to three different membrane and coating decisions.
Every one is documented
If a supplier cannot show you the site photographs and tell you the scope, treat the claim as unverified — including when the supplier is us.
10 Projects FAQ
What people ask before committing to a supplier or a form.
No. They are ten of our own projects, chosen to show range of constraint rather than size. There are larger tensile structures in the country built by other firms, and this page does not claim otherwise.
In most cases yes, subject to the site owner. Several are public or semi-public. Ask on the contact page and we will arrange what we can — seeing a roof that has stood through a few monsoons tells you more than any brochure.
It varies with span, steel tonnage and site access rather than with area alone. How long a tensile structure takes breaks the programme down stage by stage.
We have built from Srinagar to Diu and Guwahati to Bangalore from the Delhi NCR works. The projects index can be filtered by location.
It differs by project and climate: PVC-coated polyester on most, PVDF-lacquered where soiling or UV is the concern, PTFE where the design life has to be longest. See the materials guide.
We did. Loads are taken from IS 875 Part 3 and IS 1893 for the specific site, the form is found by analysis, and the steel, cables and foundations are sized to the forces the membrane generates.
Yes. The nearest starting point is a site survey, which costs nothing. Tell us the area, the support positions you can allow and the climate, and we will come back with a form and an itemised quotation.
Membrane structures need scheduled inspection rather than heavy maintenance: tension, fixings, drainage and surface soiling. See maintenance and repair.
