A mid-sized covered space for a commercial site
A commercial property often needs one worthwhile piece of covered outdoor space — a sheltered forecourt, a covered courtyard, a shaded walk or seating area. A canopy of about 686 m² answers that, and a tensile structure delivers it as a light, bright roof that goes up in weeks rather than months.
Ekra Decor delivered it as a turnkey job: survey, 3D structural and membrane design, fabrication of the galvanised steel frame and the membrane, and installation and tensioning, in about six weeks. The client and the exact use are not in the archive, so this page keeps those general.
Design & Engineering
How a commercial canopy is engineered
The membrane is form-found so it sits in double curvature — curved two ways at once — which pre-stresses the fabric so it stays taut, resists wind uplift without flapping, and drains to defined points rather than ponding.
It is carried on a galvanised steel frame with the columns kept to the perimeter of the space. Wind uplift governs a light roof, and the Lucknow monsoon is designed for in the fall and the drainage. Ekra Decor designs the steelwork to IS 800 and checks the canopy for wind, rain and seismic loading to the applicable Indian codes, with the foundations sized for uplift and overturning.
Fabrication & Installation
Prefabricated, installed in weeks
The steel is welded and hot-dip galvanised in the workshop and the membrane is cut to pattern and welded into panels off-site, so the canopy arrives ready to erect. On site the crew casts the foundations, erects the frame and tensions the membrane.
With fabrication done off-site, the installation ran to about six weeks from first survey to a finished, tensioned canopy.

How much maintenance does a tensile structure need?
Very little — a periodic wash to remove surface dirt, and an annual check of cable tension and bolt torque. PVDF and PTFE membranes are largely self-cleaning, so rain keeps them looking new. We can carry this out under an annual maintenance contract if you prefer.
