Ekra Decor built a tensile structure at Golden Event Palace, a real banquet and event venue in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, which has two indoor banquet halls according to its own website. The archive photograph clearly shows the venue’s illuminated “GOLDEN PALACE” signage and an attached “BBQ Station” at night, confirming the location.
At about 400 m², and with the indoor halls already in place, this canopy covers an outdoor or terrace part of the venue — a garden dining area, a rooftop function space, a BBQ or live-counter zone. That kind of covered outdoor space lets a venue run events outside whatever the weather, which is valuable through the winter wedding season and the monsoon alike.

The Brief
Covered outdoor space for an events venue
A banquet venue with indoor halls still wants usable outdoor space — a garden for a reception, a terrace for a BBQ counter, an open area for a sangeet. Left uncovered, that space is a gamble against the weather. A tensile canopy over it makes it a reliable, bookable part of the venue.
Ekra Decor delivered the structure as a turnkey job: survey, 3D structural and membrane design, fabrication of the galvanised steel frame and the fabric, and installation and tensioning, over about 400 m² in roughly 30 days.
Design & Engineering
A canopy that keeps the outdoor feel
The point of an outdoor event space is that it is outdoors, so the canopy shades and shelters without walling it in. The membrane is form-found and pre-stressed into double curvature so it stays taut in wind and drains cleanly, carried on a light frame with the columns to the perimeter so the space underneath stays open for tables, a stage or a counter.
Ekra Decor designs the steelwork to IS 800 and checks the canopy for wind and rain loading to the applicable Indian codes, with the foundations sized against uplift. A translucent membrane keeps the space bright by day, and after dark it reflects the venue’s lighting back down — useful for an event area used mostly in the evening.
Fabrication & Installation
Prefabricated, installed between bookings
The steel is fabricated and hot-dip galvanised in the workshop and the membrane is cut and welded into panels off-site, so the on-site work is quick: cast the footings, erect the frame, run and tension the membrane.
On a working venue the installation is planned around the events calendar, with the area handed back as a finished, tensioned canopy in about 30 days.

Golden Event Palace gained a covered outdoor event area that works whatever the weather — a garden or terrace space that stays bookable through the monsoon and the wedding season. The canopy needs only cleaning between events and a periodic tension check.

What membrane material would a structure like this be built in?
The choice depends on span, climate and intended lifespan. PVC-coated polyester is the most cost-effective option, with a 10–15 year service life. PVDF-coated polyester adds a self-cleaning top layer and pushes that to 15–20 years. PTFE-coated fibreglass is a permanent, non-combustible membrane with a life measured in decades, and ETFE film is used where an ultra-light, highly transparent roof is needed.
Is the structure engineered to Indian standards?
Yes. Wind, rain and — where relevant — snow and seismic loads are analysed to the applicable IS codes, and the steelwork is designed to IS 800. The membrane is form-found so its stresses stay balanced in double curvature, and the foundations are sized against uplift and overturning rather than gravity alone — the governing case for a lightweight tensile roof.
What warranty and documentation come with the structure?
Up to a 10-year written warranty on the membrane, plus as-built drawings, original mill certificates for the membrane and steel, a structural stability certificate and an operation & maintenance manual on handover. An annual maintenance contract covering inspection and re-tensioning is optional.
How much maintenance does a tensile structure need?
Very little — a periodic wash to remove surface dirt, and an annual check of cable tension and bolt torque. PVDF and PTFE membranes are largely self-cleaning, so rain keeps them looking new. We can carry this out under an annual maintenance contract if you prefer.
