Engineering a feature-scale canopy
A small canopy is still form-found and pre-stressed. The membrane is pulled into double curvature so it stays taut and reads as a crisp, deliberate shape, carried on a slim galvanised steel frame — often a single mast or a pair of columns on pad foundations.
The loads are modest but real: wind uplift governs, and Ekra Decor designs the steel to IS 800 and checks the structure for wind to the applicable Indian codes, sizing the foundation for uplift and overturning. A coated architectural fabric gives the piece a clean, colour-stable finish that lasts for years.
Fabrication & Installation
Prefabricated, up in days
The frame is welded and hot-dip galvanised and the membrane is cut and edge-finished in the workshop, so the element arrives essentially complete. On site the crew casts the small foundation, stands and plumbs the frame, and spreads and tensions the membrane.
With almost no groundworks and a prefabricated frame, the installation took just 10 days.
