Ekra Decor built a small tensile structure for Dhoot Infrastructure in Gurgaon. Dhoot Infrastructure Projects Limited is the real-estate arm of the Dhoot Group, a diversified conglomerate founded in 1971, with a documented Gurgaon property portfolio spanning apartments, farm estates, hotels, malls and IT parks.

A single feature element
At the small end, a tensile structure is a piece of architecture rather than a shelter over an area — a canopy that marks an entrance, a cover over a kiosk or a security cabin, a small shaded spot. The brief is precise: cover one thing, look considered doing it, and go up fast.
Ekra Decor delivered it as a complete job: survey, 3D design of the form and its frame, fabrication, and installation and tensioning, in 10 days.
Design & Engineering
Engineering a feature-scale canopy
A small canopy is still form-found and pre-stressed. The membrane is pulled into double curvature so it stays taut and reads as a crisp, deliberate shape, carried on a slim galvanised steel frame — often a single mast or a pair of columns on pad foundations.
The loads are modest but real: wind uplift governs, and Ekra Decor designs the steel to IS 800 and checks the structure for wind to the applicable Indian codes, sizing the foundation for uplift and overturning. A coated architectural fabric gives the piece a clean, colour-stable finish that lasts for years.
Fabrication & Installation
Prefabricated, up in days
The frame is welded and hot-dip galvanised and the membrane is cut and edge-finished in the workshop, so the element arrives essentially complete. On site the crew casts the small foundation, stands and plumbs the frame, and spreads and tensions the membrane.
With almost no groundworks and a prefabricated frame, the installation took just 10 days.
The Result
A small, precise piece of shade
The site gained a compact tensile element that shelters or marks one specific spot — done quickly and cleanly. It is effectively maintenance-free apart from an occasional wash and a tension check.

The choice depends on span, climate and intended lifespan. PVC-coated polyester is the most cost-effective option, with a 10–15 year service life. PVDF-coated polyester adds a self-cleaning top layer and pushes that to 15–20 years. PTFE-coated fibreglass is a permanent, non-combustible membrane with a life measured in decades, and ETFE film is used where an ultra-light, highly transparent roof is needed.
Yes. Wind, rain and — where relevant — snow and seismic loads are analysed to the applicable IS codes, and the steelwork is designed to IS 800. The membrane is form-found so its stresses stay balanced in double curvature, and the foundations are sized against uplift and overturning rather than gravity alone — the governing case for a lightweight tensile roof.
A one-year written warranty on the structure and workmanship, and a membrane warranty of 5 to 15 years depending on the fabric grade, plus as-built drawings, original mill certificates for the membrane and steel, a structural stability certificate and an operation & maintenance manual on handover. An annual maintenance contract covering inspection and re-tensioning is optional.
Very little — a periodic wash to remove surface dirt, and an annual check of cable tension and bolt torque. PVDF and PTFE membranes are largely self-cleaning, so rain keeps them looking new. We can carry this out under an annual maintenance contract if you prefer.
